A few weeks ago, I was in a bus, embarking one of my numerous impromptu journeys. There, seated at my back were these two human beings that decided to prove to each other how more Christian they were. The outcome of that chat has necessitated this piece.

During the argument, this self-righteous Aunty made assertions pointing to the fact that Jesus didn’t preach repentance but only asked everyone to believe and be saved which means that you don’t need to repent of your sins to be saved.

She said that you’re sinning or not won’t stop you from going to heaven because they grace that Jesus brought has covered even our future sins; so we don’t need to repent of them again. The annoying part was that she kept quoting bible even more than the bible itself.

Then today, another self-acclaimed pastor on Facebook made assertions that one doesn’t need to stop smoking or dressing seductively as long as one has believed in Christ’s saving grace. My problem with all these folks is that they are selective about scriptures that they believe in.

Listen to me, Christ bought us salvation and grace. He bought it with His blood from the father and gave it to us for free as long as we believe and receive him. But the same bible says you must work out your salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:12).

Working it out is not limited to believing and acceptance, if not Paul wouldn’t have said that he counted all things as loss (Phil 3:8).

People talk about morality and Christianity as different fields of which I strongly believe. But I want to addend that a Christian must be moral in-tote.

For instance, I often make this reference to our great uncle Levi who was later named Matthew who was a tax collector, I also talk about Zacchaeus who was a swindler and tax collector, and I talk about Mary Magdalene who was a prostitute.

They left totally all the things they were involved in just because they met Christ.

Everyone have sinned and fallen short of the glory (Romans 3:23) and in Acts 17:30, we are told that God forgave all our days of ignorance but now COMMANDS all people everywhere to repent, so if we are repenting, what are we repenting from. Why don’t we just believe and that will be all? It is not just about believing and confessing people. Faith without work is completely dead and buried (James 2:14-26). Believing is an act of faith and trying to live right and follow the dictates of God is the work.

The problem we are facing is that a lot of people once they repent and assume that they have received the holy spirit, append Pastor in front of their name and claim disciples to themselves. Who are you to be a discipler? Christ had 70 but he believed that they were much, He cut them to 12 and even in that 12 one got lost.

Some of us think we are encyclopedias of the word, Psalms 68:11 talked about God giving the word and great was the company of the preachers. Paul the greatest apostle said in 1 Corinthians 2 that he didn’t have to preach with so much eloquence but today we have eloquent preachers who preach things that are completely insane while drawing great followership and answering Papa - Father.

Please stop deceiving the flock of God and making them think that they don’t have to repent to gain eternal life. You make us believe that all we need is to just believe in Jesus and sit back as we enjoy our ride to heaven. People wake up and wake up.

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
