A TIME FOR TEMPTATION

"And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a season" - Luke 4:13

Just as there are time and season for everything under the heavens, there’s time to be tempted in life. The devil doesn't tempt a man with what he hates with a perfect hatred, he tempts him with what catches his attention.

The devil doesn't tempt a person that has nothing at stake, he tempts those who are destined to become great and mighty in God's hand. Joseph was tempted but his elder brothers were not. Samson was tempted but not his parents. Jesus was tempted but not His disciples, although they faced theirs later.

When you're ignorant of the fact that there's a season for temptation, you'll fall into it unawares. You might not be tempted to commit sin for years but a time will come when the devil will check on you to see if you still maintain your stand.

Jesus was tempted but He was left for a season (Luke 4:13). He was tempted by the people (Luke 11:16; 53-54). Be mindful of those who come into your life lest they become a resource for the devil to tempt you. However, in all forms, He was tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Heb. 4:15).

How can I guard against temptation when they come unawares?

Be sober, be vigilant: because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). Don't run the spiritual race with your spiritual and physical eyes closed.

There are some people you need to see for whom they are. If Samson saw Delilah beyond the face value, he would have destroyed her before she destroyed him.

Be equipped with spiritual understanding. Temptation doesn't come just for a man to fall into sin, it comes so as to destroy something greater in the life of the man.

Do you think Jesus would have only sinned by bowing to the devil? He won't have become the saviour of the world too. To overcome temptation, walk in the Spirit so that you don't fulfil the lust of the flesh.

The only victory you have over sexual temptation is to FLEE (2 Tim. 2:22; 1 Thess. 5:22). Don't negotiate but run for your dear life.

Mind you, know that temptation is for a season.
