Anger Management

What is Anger?
It is a natural emotion that usually occurs as a result of a secondary response to feeling sad or bad over a thing. Thus uncontrolled anger can lead to serious problems at work and personal relationship.

What is Management?
An organisation is a function that coordinates the effort of people to accomplish goals and objectives by using available resources efficiently and effectively.

What is Anger management?
Anger management is training for temper control and developing the skill of remaining calm and composed. It has been described as deploying anger successfully. Anger is frequently a result of frustration, or of feeling blocked or thwarted from something we feel to be important.

What makes people Angry?
There are several reasons people get angry. A few of such are listed thus: grief, sexual frustration, rudeness, tiredness, hunger, pain, some conditions such as premenstrual syndrome, physical illness, mental illness, alcohol, injustice, being teased or bullied, humiliation, embarrassment, deadlines, disappointment, failure, financial problems etc.

Some Myths about Anger –
1. I shouldn’t “hold in” my anger. It’s healthy to vent and let it out.
2. Anger, Aggression and Intimidation help me earn respect and get what I want.
3.  I can’t help myself, anger isn’t something you can moodiness etc.

If not controlled it can –
1. Hurt your career
2. Hurt your relationship with others.

The following may indicate that you need anger management:
1. You have trouble with authorities.
2. You find yourself involved in fights.
3. You hit your partner.
4. You threaten violence to people.
5. You lose your temper easily.

10 tips to tame your anger

1. Think before you speak:
In the heat of the moment, it’s easy to say something you’ll later regret.

2. Once you are calm express your anger:
State your concerns clearly without hurting others.

3. Get some exercise.

4. Take a time out.

5. Identify possible solution:
Remind yourself that anger won’t fix anything. It might make it worse.

6. Stick with “I” statements:
Example – I am upset that you left the dishes instead of, you never do any housework.

7. Don’t hold a grudge:
Forgiveness is a powerful tool.

8. Use Humor to release tension.

9. Practice relaxation skills.

10. Know when to seek help.

Conclusion -
In conclusion, it is not a crime to get angry but lingering and staying long over it is the sin. The Lord calls us to:
Be merciful, overlook the sins of others, not take revenge, and treat people with love and grace. Anger must be overcome by the power of God’s word and spirit. Let the spirit of God rule you and be with you always.
