“Just jump out of the well of hell and dwell; and only then shall all be well.” – Muoka CG
In the wake of a New Year, the time is totally ripe for deep introspection, meditation, and reflection, to help ensure the true oneness of the body and soul. Everyone should devote a moment of quietness to involve in critical thinking. Thinking about the activities of the past and how it is affecting the present. According to Strive Masiyiwa a Zimbabwean businessman, “you cannot embrace the new unless you pass judgement on the old.”
You may have been told that the present is all that matters, true it is; but then, how can the present be without the past? How can there be a day of light without a night of darkness? How can there be a New Year without an Old Year? How can there be time without activities? How can there be rules without deviants? So many things work hand in glove, thus we must not neglect the law of complementarities. Hence, we must ensure that we address issues to avoid their metamorphosis.
To know the unknown one must first dig from the well known. It would be foolhardy to think of sweeping things under the carpet in the guise of having entered a New Year. However, it would be in tune with wisdom to ensure to tidy up the remnants of the past, so that there would be a room for the brand new present if one actually desires the best of it.
What were the mistakes you made in the past year, once detected, take proactive actions to prevent their future reoccurrence. This is necessary because some activities of the past may often rear heads in the present. However, be rest assured that all problems have a solution, and the primary solution is a matter of choice, of which is to first acknowledge the presence of the problem, a problem identified and well stated is a problem half solved. Every other rescue missions are secondary.
The self re-examination time is essential to prevent unforeseen escalations of undesired results and the possibilities of falling from grace to grass. Many strongholds have collapsed in the past, not because they weren't adorned with pillars, but rather it was a consequence of gross neglect, procrastination, lack of review and routine maintenance. Call the injuries and tears of the past year a lesson, and also call the growth and breakthroughs of the past year a blessing. What were the progressive moves of the past year, once detected, take additional actions to build and strengthen them.
Since Man is in love with success; he must realize that proper planning is the only key used to lockout poor performance and the power that enthrones one as a captor of opportunities. From times ancient opportunities have always favoured the prepared, and people who do not study the history of events are condemned to repeat historical mistakes; so do not throw your past mistakes into the garbage bin as they culminate into experiences.
Rather, keep your personal experiences and experiences from well-meaning friends as a reference point; because nothing new is yet to occur under the sun and past events keep trying to repeat itself in a different dimension. Unfortunately, a lot of people remake a mistake because they ignored or forgot the mistakes of the past.
A lot of past experiences have indirectly helped to make you the experienced man and woman you become; without experiences, there would be no difference between a youngster and an old man. Always bear in mind that a smooth sea has never made a skilled sailor. Your doggedness in the face of obstacles today is reinforced by your experiences of the past, and as you stand to fight, you would only win if you are knowledgeable and wise.
In acknowledgement of the facts stated above, an Igbo adage says, “Mgbe onye ji teta bu ututu ya” meaning “whenever you wake up is your morning.” This sends a message of hope and revival as you embrace the New Year; thus it’s better late than never, you can still distinguish yourself and adorn your life with excellence starting from the beginning of the New Year. Therefore, it’s never late to arise and shine, this is because the time is always right to do what is right, as far as you are convinced that you are on the right track.
But first and foremost, you must carry out an investigation to uncover the caterpillars that have been ravaging the beauty of your life. Ask yourself questions, and then you must decide to burn the bridges of downfall and build steps of advancement. You must acknowledge that Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well of hell is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone in disguise. And Joseph said to his brothers, “You plotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened.” - Genesis 50:20 (GNT)
Some nuggets of advancement include;
Firstly, avoid procrastination. Procrastination is the enemy of human advancement. “I will do it today; I would have done it yesterday;” that’s the excuses as a result of procrastination. Procrastination has never yielded any good rather it makes easy ventures appear truncated and gigantic. Bearing in mind that life is all about taking one step at a time makes procrastination a vice. Why don’t you take it bit by bit, I bet you, you won’t know when you would finish eating a trailer load of spaghetti alone; (funny isn’t it?)
Secondly, avoid Pessimism. Pessimism is continuous thinking in a negative direction. Any soul that lacks confidence has been conquered before the war. A popular adage says, “A coward dies many times before the actual death itself.” What propels you matters a lot! If negativity propels you then you tire easily and give up when the going gets tough. Rather be filled with enthusiasm, or rather become a prisoner of hope, and surround yourself with positive energies. You will be surprised how far you would go, and still be willing to go.
This is because life is an adventure, the more you dig the more you discover and the more enthusiastic you are expected to become. If you get repelled, you are bound to forfeit the task. Everyone has often thought of giving up; is it the president, the pope, the billionaire, the freedom fighters, the child from the slum, or even the lions of the forest, had all once thought of giving up on a race that did matter most to them. But they never did, rather they avoided pessimism and embraced enthusiasm, they accepted to become prisoners of hope. They understood that once you become pessimistic, then you are bound to give up.
Thirdly, review your prayer and active life. Action speaks louder than words, prayer works wonders with action. Talking too much might to an extent; be likened to as being as noisy as the laughing hyenas. The sound of your voice isn’t more pleasing, but the thoughts of your heart and deeds of your hands are most pleasing to God. When God intends to scrutinize a man, He first looks inwards to see the intents of a man’s mind and not the persistent cries nor the shouts of a man’s voice, because men sometimes can be hypocritical, saying that they have particular moral beliefs but behaving in a way that shows these are not sincere or true. Do not sleep in the church and forget to tidy your life; remember that success is one per cent prayer and ninety-nine per cent hard work. Helping hands are often holier than praying lips, but then before you take a step do not fail to ask God for his divine favour and directives.
Sadly, this is one of the reasons why Africa is drifting backwardly, due to excessive religious activities coupled with religious crisis and intolerance at the expense of entrepreneurship and hard work. When you understand that you should pray as if all depends on prayer and work as if all depends on hard work; you would be amazed as to how excellence will surround you. Do not short-change the other; you can’t sit all day and always expect miracles (although they do happen).
Finally, weigh your actions before execution. “One messy act is often the father of atrocities. It’s just like a chain reaction.” – Muoka CG. A farmer should not go to his farmland without his tools, so should a man not move around without his brain. The brain has been bestowed on one for reasoning. The onus lies on one to always make use of the brain while engaging in several mere issues and issues that have to do with life and death.
Have a wonderful year.
